Neo-soul møter Afrofusion

Akuvi er en artist og låtskriver med norsk-ghanesisk bakgrunn, blant annet kjent som finalist i årets norske Melodi Grand Prix-finale, med den selvskrevne låta «Som du er». Det skjedde like etter et fire år langt studieopphold i Cape Town i Sør-afrika, der hun studerte fred, konflikt og religion. Oppholdet ble også et musikalsk vendepunkt. Gjennom ulike musikalske samarbeid, jammer og musikkopplevelser, plukket Akuvi opp elementer fra tradisjonell sør-afrikansk gospel, vest-afrikansk afropop og amerikansk hip hop og R&B. Hun skriver ærlige tekster, hentet fra dagboken sin, med inspirasjon fra artister som Burna Boy og Lauryn Hill. Etter at Akuvi kom hjem til Norge i 2019 har hun sluppet utallige singler, ett album, spilt på flere festivaler og deltatt i Beat for Beat. For tiden spiller hun inn ny musikk, og første singel fra det nye prosjektet slippes i høst, rundt samme tid som hun og bandet gjester Oslo World og Victoria.

Norwegian-Ghanaian Akuvi is an Oslo-based neo-soul vocalist, songwriter and entertainer. She was one of five pre-selected finalists in the songwriting contest Melodi Grand Prix in 2020, where she performed her original track «Som du er». When Akuvi was 21 years old she moved to Cape Town, South Africa to pursue studies of peace, conflict and religion. In Cape Town she started experimenting with her sound through a number of collaborations, jams and listening sessions. Her exploration led to a sound influenced by south-african gospel and west-african afro pop as well as contemporary hip hop and RnB. Four years later, she relocated to Oslo in February 2019, and within the first year of her return, she had released an album, several singles and music videos, and made appearances on both festivals and the TV screen. She is currently working on her newest project and the first single will be released this autumn, around the same time as Akuvi and her band come to Oslo World and Victoria.
