Rudresh Mahanthappa is to Charlie Parker what Albert Einstein is to Newton . For years, Indian descended Mahanthappa has filtered South Indian music through modern jazz and created a distinctive character. On the album Bird Calls Mahanthappa took Charlie Parker for himself, and updated him to the 21st century. It is not so much a tribute as a complete devotion to Parker’s music, where Parker’s bebop is both base and superstructure to Mahanthappa’s own songs.

Mahanthappa now brings both this project and a brilliant band to Victoria. It is an energetic and timeless evening with Bird enthusiastic hovering over the venue!
