The British guitarist John McLaughlin is a well known name in the music world. He has had an amazing forty year career in which he in his capacity as a solo artist, prominent member of Miles Davis' band in the period around Bitches Brew and leader of Mahavishnu Orchestra, has been the most prominent musician in fusion and jazz rock. McLaughlin is no novice when it comes to composing. In recent decades, he has written music for symphony orchestras and ballet performances, as well as for their own and other band projects.
To Victoria McLaughlin brings his latest band project. The 4th Dimension is no less than Etienne Mbappe on bass, Ranjit Barot on drums, and not least, Gary Husband on keyboard and drums. The album To the One came in 2010 and was featured in glowing terms. The Guardian writes that "... this tight 40-minute document hums with a collaborative energy." And AllAboutJazz summarizes simply: "To the One is, quite simply, McLaughlin's best album in well over a Decade." Recently he released Now Here This to much critcal acclaim, again, in Norwegian press.
Big stars usually play in big venues, and John McLaughlin is no exception in this respect. The concerts at the Victoria is therefore - in addition to being one of his rare club gigs on Norwegian soil - a unique opportunity to experience one of jazz's biggest names in an intimate setting. Victoria is a perfect venue for such occasions and we predict that it will be crowded, sweaty and amazing. And so that as many as possible will get the chance to experience this legend, we present two concerts in a row.
Such occasions does not happen every year, and we recommend to buy tickets well in advance!
