The North Norwegian jazz scene has been strong for many years which has resulted in many performing musicians in a very high level. It has been working actively and purposefully with this scene through the ages, thanks to enthusiasts and a lot of volunteers who have used their free time to create good experiences in their communities. This is also the inspiration for many musicians who have been educated in big bands and other learning institutions and have become role models for younger musicians.
5 and 6 October the North Norwegian jazzs cene visits Nasjonal jazzscene to present what they stand for in the north. They will show their breadth, knowledge, the groundbreaking and the beauty that is produced from this part of the country.

In 2010 the book Nordlands Trompet was released, written by the NRK journalist Jan Ditlev Hansen. This is a book about Northern Norwegian jazz for the last 90 years and includes many great stories and anecdotes from the jazz scene in the north. We have invited former journalist, now a special advisor at Nordområdesenteret, Arne O. Holm to read some of these and also to host the two concert evenings.
