Inventive improvisations from the king of British jazz and his heir apparent.
In the European free jazz heavens there are two saxophonists who shine longer and stronger than most: Peter Brötzmann and Evan Parker. The latter was almost singularly responsible for introducing avant-garde to the UK, and fifty years later he is still a creative epicentre. Last time we heard him at Victoria it was through a fabulous interaction with John Escreet. Now he's back with Alexander Hawkins, another brilliant young pianist, and one of the most interesting and innovative British musicians of the day.
Together they recently released the album Leaps in Leicester, where they improvise freely, yet within some tightly tied-up lines. Although we are talking about two great musicians in their own right, the duo's greatest strength still lies in interaction. We are talking about really tuned ears!
