Percussion-driven steam engine.

Ola Kvernberg is on his way to establishing himself as the Victorian in Norwegian jazz. Last time around he immersed himself in gears, mechanics and ticking movements in the ambitious project Mechanical Fair. Now it’s the steam engine’s turn. Steamdome is a name that smacks of Dickens and Livingstone, fog, opium and a sweaty, panting locomotive headed for the heart of darkness.

But when all’s said and done this is all about music. Steamdome is intensely percussive with no fewer than three drummers who ensure the boiler never runs cold. And with organ, fiddles, guitars, and bass on top, it gets red-hot in the wagon.

Ole Kvernberg – fiddle, viola, guitar, Øyvind Blomstrøm – guitar, Daniel Buner Formo – organ, Nikolai Hængsle Eilertsen – bass, Erik Nylander – drums, Hans Hulbækmo – drums, Børge Fjordheim – drums
