Australian cult band celebrates 30 years of mesmerizing improvisations.
Life’s pretty simple for the Necks: They play as long as they can hold out. And then they stop.
The Australian cult band The Necks, which turns 30 this year, is something unto itself. Not quite avant-garde, not quite minimalism, not quite ambient, not quite jazz. The concertss begin with a single theme or little melody line which gets extended, developed and explored. A musical journal that lasts for an hour or more. It’s hypnotic and riveting experience, with elegant and subtle details that wave in and out of the soundscape, and with a deep, deep underlying groove that binds the whole thing together.
Chris Abrahams – piano, Lloyd Swanton – bass, Tony Buck – trommer
The Necks jubilee tour is supported by the Australian government through the Australia Council’s arts funding program.
