Eclectic and dirty art-rock slash punk-jazz from the dark basements of NYC

Marc Ribot is sailed into the limelight as a guitarist on Tom Waits’ Rain Dogs album, but moving under his own keel he is most comfortable working the in-between space, always headed to another genre.

In Ceramic Dog, Ribot is joined by another veteran of New York’s toughest alternative scenes, Shahzad Ismaily, as well as drum-phantom Ches Smith who hails from among other things Secret Chiefs 3. It is dirty, punked and smells of the city and dark cellars. And occasionally, as on their tongue-in-cheek rendition of Brubeck’s – Take Five, the whole package can remind of the Stooges trying to get into jazz college.

«Marc Ribot’s new power trio, filled out by the remarkable versatile rhythm team of bassist Shahzad Ismaily and drummer Ches Smith, is his rawest band in ages.»
(TimeOut NY)

«Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog, whose style is experimental…though much more pleasing on the ears, was one of the best surprises of the festival.»
