With their third album, "Vol. 3 ", the band put together by saxophonist and composer Eirik Hegdal took home this year's Norwegian Grammy in the category Jazz. For many years Eirik Hegdal has been one of the most productive and innovative composers in jazz; with exquisite melodic and harmonic flair combined with a sometimes absurd humor. Genre boundaries remain wide open for Hegdal, where he is brilliantly grabs from Messiaen and a little from Gil Evans and constantly glances wonderingly into the shelves of jazz history. To serve this intricate brew he has put together the team that this music requires: outstanding instrumentalists who are just as blind to possible limits as the boss himself.
