Ketil Bjørnstad's colossal production as a composer occasionally almost makes it easy to forget that he is also an outstanding performer. But we get the chance to refresh our memory when he comes to Victoria with the Swedish cellist Svante Henryson. Together they have released what is perhaps the finest album in Bjørnstad's discography: Night Song.

Svante Henryson received the Nordic Council Music Prize for 2015 and is a sought-after musician who has played with everyone from Oslo Philharmonic to Elvis Costello. In Night Song, her fascination with Franz Schubert has found Bjørnstad's romantic undertones. This is autumn music. Warm, intense colours, a cool wind. It is intensely beautiful, and just below the surface lies darkness and threat.
