It is with great pleasure that we welcome back John Scofield, one of the greatest successes we had in 2010. Dagbladet’s Terje Mosnes gave the concert at Victoria six out of six, and concluded «… a concert that fully confirmed John Scofield’s position as one of jazz’s great guitarists. He operates with an original tone palette, filling his playing with harmonic signatures and intelligent phrasing and bases everything on an approach where blues and bebop, R & B and funk, gospel and country resonate continously in a musicianship that yesterday barely contained an indifferent tone. »
He fronts a new trio this time, with some famous musians behind both the organ and drums. Larry Goldings, who in his piano upbringing had Keith Jarrett among others in his performing circle, has received tributes and awards after his shift to the organ, and is a highly sought after studio musician with on over a hundred albums. The list stretches from De La Soul to Walter Becker, Melody Gardot to Al Jarreau. It is said that Greg Hutchinson plays with a burning heart, which stretches itself out to singing with drums. Color, dynamics and control are good words for this warm evening at Victoria.
