New album out on ECM now!
Some artists like to push the limits, others create their own, new ones. And then you have the third variant: They seem like they don’t know that limits even exist. They just flow, seemingly without effort. Theo Bleckmann must be said to belong to the latter category. As a composer, he leans towards the avant-garde. As a vocalist, he just as easily sings show tunes and German cabaret as Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Charles Ives.
In Elegy quintet, Bleckmann gathers threads and musicians from previous projects and plays predominately newly written material. A new album, produced by Manfred Eicher, came out on ECM in January. Challenging beautiful!
Theo Bleckmann – vocals, Gary Versace – piano, Ben Monder – guitar, Chris Tordini – bass, John Hollenbeck – drums
