When Paal Nilssen-Love wanted to finally realize his big band dream, he imagined it fresh and free, and chose his favorite musicians from the younger generation that he found most interesting. In its third year, and now ready with its second album «Ana», Large Unit has found its own planet and a place where Paal no longer controls. It goes without saying this is free-improv royalty.
We can expect this concert to range from from solo and duo outbreaks, to simultaneous groupings with contrasts. All inhabitants on this planet remain faithful to Paals base: small, good ideas can quickly become large. Stay tuned and you’ll hear the explosive music and a powerful soundstage with brilliant ensemble playing, undoubtably both planned and impromptu.
Tonight they release and celebrate their new album, recorded in concert at Oslo Jazz Festival last year, which also features several guests.
