Last fall Hayden Powell Trio invited an audience to join them at the legendary Rainbow Studio to witness the recording of a new album. Rumor has it that this was very successful, and the result is released with a concert at Victoria this evening. The new album is called Roots and Stems (you can watch and listen to the title song below!) This is the followup to his debut album “The Attic” from 2011 that received rave reviews. Since that release, the band has played a large number of concerts across the entire country.
The trio delivers a modern and intimate chamber musical expression, that both engages and moves audiences. Powell writes original songs rooted in the jazz tradition, but is also influenced by folk, blues and modern improvisation. The songs provide plenty of space for his fellow musicians Eyolf Dale and Jo Skaansar, both of which put their personalities in the music.
