Aki Takase is a modernist who constantly find herself dipping back in jazz history. Having released records that re-interpret Ellington, WC Handy and Fats Waller, the album New Blues represents a kind of summary of these. She brings along long-time musical collaborators who have been some of the main improvisors in European jazz in recent decades. She is also joined by American Eugene Chadbourne, with his distinctive singing and banjo style.
