"In recent years people in New York have been able to work out where to hear jazz, just by finding out where the pianist Kris Davis plays" writes The New York Times. On the first Sunday in May, this also the rule in Oslo, when none other than Davis comes to Victoria.
As the quote above suggests, Kris Davis is regular at jazz clubs in the city that never sleeps. Here she plays with people like Bill Frisell, saxophonist Tony Malaby and the Norwegian bassist Eivind Opsvik, and of course her own trio. The music is slightly experimental, open and accessible, a mixture of post-free jazz and classical contemporary music. Think Keith Jarret, think Cecil Taylor, think Morton Feldman. This is a really good opportunity to know about the hottest happening on the New York jazz front today!
So when you remember where to hear jazz on Sunday 5 May? That's right- at Victoria.
